The Story of our Founding - by Ronald Court, President, BTW Society

I can't say whether it was by Providence or circumstance, but one Spring evening in 2005, I happened to browse to a webpage discussing the assumed actual date of Booker T. Washington's birth, sometime in April 1856.

Doing the math, I realized his Sesquicentennial (150th) birthday would be next year, 2006. But when I googled around to find the location, I was disappointed to find no mention anywhere.

Shortly after, I happened in on an event at a nearby college and heard a visiting speaker, Reginald Jones, mention Booker T. Washington with enthusiasm. When I met him afterward, he immediately agreed that somehow, Dr. Washington should be honored during his Sesquicentennial.

Thus was born the BTW Society. The more I studied Dr. Washington's philosophy, the more I realized its relevance to all young people today - choose to be of good character, get a good education and stay focused on opportunities before you.

I hope you agree that Booker T. has something to teach us all today and that you will consider joining the Society to help us bring "The Booker T. Way" to young Americans in your own community.
